Zinc Oxide

Zinc oxide (ZnO, CAS 1314-13-2) is an amphoteric white inorganic oxide with a wide band gap, produced commercially by the indirect (French) process from metallic zinc vapour or by the direct (American) process from zinc-bearing ores. Indirect-process ZnO reaches 99.5% to 99.9% purity and is preferred for rubber, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and electronics. Zinc oxide activates sulphur vulcanisation in rubber, provides UV absorption in sunscreens and coatings, supplies zinc nutrition in animal feed, and acts as a flux in ceramic glazes and glass. Buyers screen assay plus lead, cadmium, copper and manganese limits, especially for feed and cosmetic grades.

Application scenarios

  • Rubber vulcanisation activator
  • Cosmetics and sunscreen UV filter
  • Animal feed zinc supplementation
  • Ceramic glazes and glass flux
  • Pharmaceutical ointments and powders
  • Varistors and electronic ceramics
