Titanium Dioxide
CAS 13463-67-7 · TiO2 · HS 3206.11
Titanium dioxide (TiO2, CAS 13463-67-7) is a bright white inorganic pigment with a refractive index of approximately 2.7, giving it the highest hiding power of any commercial white pigment. It is chemically inert, insoluble in water and organic solvents, and stable up to roughly 1800 °C in the rutile crystal form. Commercial pigment grades are surface treated with alumina, silica or zirconia to balance dispersibility, chalk resistance and weathering durability. Rutile grades dominate exterior coatings, engineering plastics and masterbatch, while anatase grades are widely used in paper, interior coatings, fibres and food-contact applications where maximum weatherability is not required.
Application scenarios
- Architectural and industrial coatings
- Plastics masterbatch and PVC profiles
- Paper filling and coating
- Printing inks and coatings
- Cosmetics and sunscreen formulations
- Food-contact packaging pigments
